Removable prosthodontics is the branch of prosthetic dentistry concerned with the replacement of missing teeth and contiguous structures for edentulous or partially edentulous patients by artificial substitutes that are readily removable from the mouth. In that case, if the patient does not want to solve the problem of missing teeth by placing implants, a removable partial denture (RPD) or a complete denture is an accepted restoration.

A removable partial denture is the restoration preferred when few teeth remain in the mouth and a complete denture is the restoration used when all teeth are missing or when there are indications for placing dental implants and overdentures are used on them.
